My name is Megan Martin and I am a Master’s of Public Health (MPH) student at the University of North Florida. My bachelor’s degree is in nutrition. My interests in public health are wide ranging, but include: diabetes, HIV, cyclist/pedestrian safety, environmental issues, and especially food and it’s relation to health and culture.
I currently volunteer with the Duval County Health Department (DCHD) in the Nutrition and Chronic Disease Prevention department. I work with their diabetes program, A New Deal. With this program I help individuals diagnosed with diabetes understand their condition better and learn to properly manage their lifestyle appropriately. I also help them set and keep up with goals.
Also at DCHD I am training to be a health counselor on an HIV research study. I just completed a mini-internship with this project over the summer as a research assistant.
